Greek fashion heritage with a modern twist in The Ellinikon Experience Park at Athens Fashion week
There was a great change at Athens Fashion Week this year: fashion shows took place at The Ellinikon Experience Park, the biggest urban project in Athens that was built on a previous old airport in the Glyfada area. It was my first visit to a Vassilis Zoulias fashion show and I was impressed by everything: the location of the runway, the number of famous people, the photographers and the audience. Vassilis Zoulias is a renowned Greek fashion designer known for his elegant and sophisticated creations, particularly renowned for his bohemian evening gowns and cocktail dresses. He started his career in the 1980s and quickly gained recognition for his exquisite craftsmanship and artistic style.
The “Garden Euphoria” AW 23-24 collection was infused with timeless elegance: bouffant dresses in floral prints, modified LBDs with open shoulders and capes, long gloves, massive crystal earrings and new versions of the VERTIGO jacket which Emily wore in a Season 2 episode of Emily in Paris. In this collection one of these jackets was showcased in navy denim, encrusted with crystal floral elements on the front of the coat, an extremely oversized collar and wide sleeves the length of the jacket. This was paired with wide palazzo trousers and gloves in the same tone, creating a sense of drama and sophistication in the entire look. Zoulias’ contribution to BarbieCore was a floral green moulded mini dress paired with long gloves and heels in the same fabric, and massive crystal earrings the same tone as the attire, which shone and reflected the sunlight. Zoulias’ commitment to preserving and promoting Greek fashion heritage is evident in his work. He often incorporates traditional Greek elements and motifs into his designs, giving them a unique cultural flair.
My inner modest fashionista has already imagined two looks with pieces from this collection: a VERTIGO jacket with wide low-rise jeans and those floral gloves with an oversized white t-shirt and pants. But for the evening it would definitely be that black off-the-shoulder dress and pearl earrings.
