Timeless Iconic Jewellery: Bulgari ring B.Zero, Cartier love, Tiffany Keys, Van Cleef & Arpel Alhambra

26th, November 2020 by Anna Gooss

Initially, jewellery was mostly used by royal and wealthy people to show their status and keep their money in jewellery as a way to inherit, re-sell or move. Beside this, jewellery was hand-made, and its manufacture was not as developed and organised as it is nowadays, so the price was high and the number of items was limited which made them inaccessible for most people.

Nowadays we use jewellery to make proposals, impress and surprise our loved ones, highlight our status, keep money and invest money in jewellery which will later increase in price.

But the interesting fact is, not all items of jewellery become more expensive with age, and there are some factors:

  1. Brand name and the quality (Gold, Pure diamonds and other rare stones)
  2. Creative history (if you have something rare or something from a famous person)
  3. And the size of jewels or the quantity of precious metal. The heavier the jewellery is and the more carats it contains, the better able you’ll be to sell it at a good price.

Let’s have a look at Iconic Jewellery brands and find out what exactly is HOT and ICONIC from their collection:

Bulgari ring B.Zero1

Bulgari launched about 130 years ago when a young and talented Greek entrepreneur decided to leave Greece for a better life and set up his Jewellery company in Rome. His original name was Sotirios Voulgaris and he was from a family of master jewellers from Greece. When he moved to Rome in Italy he opened his small shop where he sold only silver jewellery that he made by hand. His shop became popular among Italians because of his beautiful design and style and they started to call him Sotirio Bulgari. His business grew well and was then passed to his sons and then grandkids who developed and expanded the Bulgari brand all over the world.

Bulgari B.Zero rings with and without diamonds

Bulgari jewellers have always tried to invent something unique and special. Thus in 1990 the B.Zero1 appeared in Bulgari’s collection. It was a revolutionary design and idea, the core of which was the geometric shape of the Coliseum. Now there are a range of variations: with diamonds, without diamonds, rose or yellow gold, and tricolours: gold, yellow and white gold in a spiral form.

This ring was totally different from other rings at that time. The ring idea is two rings and between them a spiral which symbolises eternity, unity and integrity. And this ring became the DNA of the Bulgari brand and the most desirable and popular ring in the world.

Later, Bulgari produced B.zero1 earrings, necklace charms and bracelets to accompany the ring.

Tiffany & Co Keys

Tiffany has built a powerful name which highlights their quality, policy and status among others. I don’t know anyone who’s been disappointed by Tiffany quality or who couldn’t re-sell their item because it is Tiffany, and this reflects positively on the Jewellery brand. Even their green box is instantly recognisable and when you see it you know there’s a Tiffany piece inside.

The founder of Tiffany was constantly looking for the best materials and technology for their jewels. Because of Tiffany we know about rare Blue, Pink Kunzite, Green Tsavorite and other gems.

So, Tiffany has so many iconic jewels but I want to emphasise their Iconic Tiffany’s Keys. Keys were launched in 2009. The designers of the keys were inspired by old vintage keys which opened jewellery boxes, diaries, and brooches and they made a jewellery version which we can wear as an accessory on our neck. When the Keys were presented in the Tiffany house they immediately became popular and iconic.

The keys are made of silver and gold with diamonds and without, in big and small sizes. Gossip Girl and Superstars who wore Tiffany Keys everywhere made them popular among the younger generation from almost all countries.

Cartier “LOVE” bracelet

The bracelet “LOVE” was made about half a century ago by Italian designer Aldo Cipullo and still excites us and causes great interest among fans. We have got to admit that this bracelet is also influential to our life. If you fall in love with someone and want to give something special you choose a Cartier LOVE bracelet as a present, or if you want to highlight your style and identity you also choose Love. Therefore  LOVE is everywhere and all we need is LOVE which makes this bracelet an ICONIC and “Must Have” item.

An interesting fact is that Cipullo actually started to work on a “Love ” design when working at Tiffany & Co. in New York. So why didn’t Tiffany present this bracelet you may ask me? And the answer is, Tiffany didn’t accept it and after a couple of days Aldo moved to Cartier and presented this bracelet as the first bracelet for this watch brand.

Initially “Cartier Love” was originally impossible to buy for yourself; you could only buy it for your loved one. The bracelet earned the nickname ‘the love-handcuff’ because it was impossible to open and lock it by-yourself; only your loved one could do this with a special screwdriver, this unusual feature meant that the symbol of Love by Cartier went viral.

Today the Cartier Love bracelet can be accompanied with earrings, rings and necklaces in the same style.

Van Cleef & Arpel. Alhambra

It’s a four-leaf clover with the slogan “For luck. One must always believe in luck”.

The four-leaf clover-inspired Alhambra range by Van Cleef & Arpel is the most recognisable jewellery for its flowers in different colors.

Estelle Arpels and Alfred Van Cleef were a couple from Paris who set up their Jewellery Boutique by making individual items of jewellery for their clients.

According to folklore, each part of the clover leaf has a meaning: the first gives Hope, the second- belief, the third – Love and the forth and rarest- Luck. All of these elements are united in the Alhambra collection – their sautoir epitomizes the motif.

Today there’s a whole range of Alhambra pieces including rings, watches, earring, and bracelets.
