After Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment and regular Retinol use, I have totally reconsidered my attitude towards sun protection.
Earlier in my life I could use an SPF 15 foundation on my face and feel safe, but since I turned 30 this hasn’t given me the total protection and guarantee I require.
Now I’m 34, my skin is combination with a propensity for acne, I have redness and a bit of pigmentation. But the most important fact is I use Retinol and Vitamin C which makes my skin sensitive to the Sun and can cause pigmentation much faster than for those who don’t use Retinol and Vitamin C.
Therefore I assigned myself the task of finding my BEST SUNSCREENS. It has to fulfil three criteria:
- protect my skin from new pigmentation,
- not cause pimples and black spots,
- be reasonably priced.

The Ordinary
Mineral UV Filter SPF 30 with Antioxidants
This cream is difficult to find on the online shop because it´s always SOLD OUT, people buy it as soon as it becomes available! I have used this cream for a year and can definitely say that it’s the best sun cream for those who have acne, oily skin and dark spots – this cream won’t cause these reactions. (According to my experiences).
Despite having a white color which is obvious on the face, it has a matte effect and comfortable fresh feeling. You do, however, have to be ready for a strange strong smell that reminds me of the smell of wet soil or fresh yeast for making bread.
I cannot recommend this cream highly enough as protection for acne/oily skin.
Kiehl’s
Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA. UVA. Anti-Pollution.
I want to highlight two Kiehl’s products that I think are brilliant and that I consider indispensable. I use them with great pleasure and give them as gifts to my friends and family members at Christmas: These are the Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA. UVA. Anti-Pollution Sunscreen and the Superbly Efficient Anti-Perspirant And Deodorant cream. I will write about the best deodorants in another article.
This sun cream is IDEAL under foundation and I think it might even be the best because you don’t feel it at all. No pimples, no oily reaction, no white mask and nobody will notice this cream on your skin. This cream covers your face so easily and quickly that it’ll take you no time at all. I’m not joking, that’s how I feel when I apply it to my face.
You don’t need a lot of product to cover your whole face, a small amount is enough.
There are two Cons for me: it’s not water resistant which means that after the sea or swimming pool you have to refresh it on your face , and I find the price is quite high.
Take care of your skin; it’s the biggest organ in our body and protects us our whole life.
