Leaving aside that viral moment with Bella Hadid and the group of scientists who sprayed a liquid fabric onto her nude body that turned into a sheer white dress, there were lots of remarkable pieces at the Coperni Spring 23 fashion show, in Paris.
The duo designers Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, established the Coperni brand in 2013 and since then have actively gained popularity among active social media users who frequently use the Coperni hashtag in their posts. The brand is famous for its up-to-date styling, glass swipe bags, affordable price points and now for its collaboration with Fabrican Ltd which has produced a spray-on fabric that, once sprayed, turns into a garment.
The Spring/Summer 2023 collection was named Coperni Femme. Models donned tinkling, sparkly dresses made of shards of glass which rang noisily during their walk and reflected the light making the clear announcement: “I’m here”. The asymmetric and diagonally cut neckline on a black mini dress with spring elements connected the different parts of the show, creating a futuristic look but also highlighting femininity. Hair was slicked back and caught at the nape of the neck with a small hint of fringe gelled to the forehead.
It’s remarkable how easily Meyer and Vaillant balance creation and modern technologies to demonstrate their craftsmanship. This scale of popularity for a fashion show has not been created since the Alexander McQueen show in 1999. Shalom Harlow’s white dress was painted live by two robots and shocked the fashion world forever.
The Coperni Spring/Summer 2023 show shocked and awed in equal measure and will be remembered for a long time to come; not just for its viral moment, but also for its extraordinary approach.
