Parthenis: From Tradition to Trendsetting

08th, December 2023 by Anna Gooss

The Parthenis brand was the first Greek brand to adhere to the concept of sustainability and minimalism in its signature style. For fifty years the Greek brand has created simple but also refined collections in which they use only high quality organic materials and muted palettes.

Founded by Dimitris Parthenis, the brand’s legacy now thrives under his daughter, Orsalia Parthenis. She has not only preserved the brand’s rich heritage but also introduced innovative technologies and materials, breathing new life into its creations. The Parthenis line continually rejuvenates, while still maintaining its essence, with a relaxed silhouette that embraces the body, using natural fabrics such as wool, silk, and cotton.

Looking at their winter collection “Winterlude” you are plunging into Normcore in a complete understanding of that fashion buzzword. The collection seamlessly fuses comfort, simplicity, and a touch of understated elegance, epitomising the ongoing evolution of the Parthenis brand from tradition to trendsetting.

I visited a flagship store at Kolonaki, Athens to explore and try pieces from the Winterlude collection. I ended up choosing two sets in emerald and burgundy green, versatile staples suitable for winter, autumn, and spring wardrobes.

The first ensemble features an oversized emerald top with a zip collar, detailed with a knitted upper section and sleeves, paired with pleated satin trousers. The second look also highlights emerald green tones but in different fabrics and silhouettes.

Moving on to the third outfit, it showcases beautiful maroon shades: a loose peach silk top combined with relaxed velour burgundy trousers, along with an oversized knitted cardigan in a rich cinnamon hue. Lastly, there was a burgundy top with an asymmetric neckline paired with trousers in the same tone.

Parthenis is a respected and well-known brand in Greece and Cyprus, where it has earned recognition and built a loyal customer base. Despite being one of the oldest clothing brands in Greece and having significant recognition among locals and loyal clients, the Parthenis brand remains relatively unknown abroad. Considering sustainability’s ascent in the fashion world, why not get to know and recognise the brands that have been early adopters and continue to push the ethical envelope further?
